How to Create a Dynamic Segment

Dynamic Segments automatically add or remove contacts as they match your rules. Use them to organize subscribers by engagement, activity, custom fields, opt-in source, and more—without manually updating lists.

Steps

1. Go to Dynamic Segments and select “Create Segment.”

Navigate to Audiences → Dynamic Segments, then click Create Segment.

2. Add your segment conditions.

Choose the rules contacts must match to enter the segment.

Examples:

  • Contacts who clicked a Campaign
  • Subscribers added through a Keyword
  • Customers from a specific location
  • Contacts with a custom field value

3. Review your segment.

Preview the conditions and estimated matching contacts before saving.

4. Name your Segment.

Choose a clear internal name that reflects the purpose of the audience.

Examples:

  • Recent Campaign Clickers
  • VIP Customers
  • New Subscribers
  • Restaurant Loyalty Members

5. Create the Segment.

Click Confirm to save your Dynamic Segment.

Your audience will now update automatically as contacts match or stop matching the rules.

Best Practices

  • Keep segments focused on one goal or behavior.
  • Use naming conventions that clearly identify the audience.
  • Combine engagement and customer data for better targeting.
  • Review inactive or outdated segments regularly.
